Matt Elliott

labor & employment, litigation, appellate

Matt handles civil litigation of all kinds. He brings a competitive spirit and problem-solving mentality to every case. His approach, always, is to put the client’s goals first.

Employment claims, including discrimination and retaliation lawsuits, wage claims, and non- compete disputes, have been a special focus of Matt’s practice. Other areas include will contests and estate litigation, insurance coverage, insurance defense, business and contract disputes, personal injury, and appeals. Over the years, Matt has also been fortunate to handle several class actions and collective actions, on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. Beyond litigation, he counsels clients on employment issues, contracts, and risk mitigation strategies.

As a result of his experience and local knowledge, Matt also regularly assists out-of-state attorneys in Allen County and statewide, and he helps other lawyers resolve disputes as a registered civil mediator.

Matt is the former managing partner of the firm and served on the firm’s management committee for many years.

After law school, Matt clerked for a great judge and wonderful man, the Honorable Jerome Farris of the Ninth Circuit United States Court of Appeals in Seattle, Washington. It was a long time ago, but fond memories remain.

Outside of work, Matt is a tennis enthusiast who clings to the shreds of his youthful game. He also golfs, sometimes effectively, and has acquired a clunky yoga practice now that his daughters are teaching it. Beyond that, Matt enjoys travel with his wife and three kids, with the ideal trip involving walking, history, people-watching, and food.
