Heidi splits her practice between family law and divorce, and professional licensing and disciplinary defense litigation. Heidi routinely counsels healthcare clients on matters involving risk management, credentialing, peer review confidentiality, and litigation avoidance. This includes providing training and seminars for clients on patient privacy, compliance, charting, and handling the high risk patient. Heidi also represents professionals in proceedings before their licensing and disciplinary boards and defends professional negligence claims.
Heidi also devotes a significant part of her practice to family law, including divorce, annulment, legal separation, child support, parenting time, grandparent visitation, and custody disputes. She helps mothers and fathers resolve paternity, relocation, college contribution, emancipation, support modifications, and a variety of other family law issues. Heidi has been named a "Top Lawyer" in Fort Wayne in the area of family law. Heidi is also trained as a collaborative family law attorney. The collaborative family law process is a unique, forward-thinking process used in family law cases. Its primary focus is peaceful, fair solutions rather than the traditional litigation based approach. This process can be extremely useful for divorcing couples with children who strive for a peaceful co-parent relationship instead of a conflict-centered divorce.
Heidi is also registered as a Domestic Relations Mediator to help families mediate their disputes in family law matters and, in particular, help parents resolve family disputes before a matter is filed in court. Heidi routinely mediates cases with the Allen Circuit and Superior Courts Mediation Day program and has also been selected by the Allen Circuit Court as an Arbitrator. Heidi is currently the co-editor of two family law publications: Domestic Help and Family Matters. Both publications focus on family law issues including new case developments. Family Matters is a quarterly publication of the Indiana State Bar Association Family & Juvenile Law Section. Domestic Help is a quarterly publication of the Allen County Bar Association Family Law Section.
Heidi is a member of the Allen County Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Benjamin American Inns of Court, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and Collaborative Family Law Solutions. She is the Chairperson of the Women’s Section of the Allen County Bar Association and is also an active member of the Family Law Section, and the Indiana State Family and Juvenile Section. Heidi also devotes some of her time to paralegal education with Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast, where she serves as a faculty member of the Paralegal Program, as well as a member of its Advisory Board. Heidi also teaches undergraduate law courses at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
